Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma to meet his Meghalaya counterpart CM Conrad Sangma today in Shillong to discuss the border disputes between Assam and Meghalaya in at least 12 areas.

The official meeting between the two CM is going to be held ahead of the two-day North Eastern Council (NEC) meeting to be attended by Union Home Minister, Amit Shah on Saturday.

Earlier, on July 17 Conrad Sangma meets Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma in Guwahati to find out an amicable solution to resolve the border dispute between Assam and Meghalaya.

Earlier, addressing the media persons on the state Assembly premises CM Sarma said, “I will meet Meghalaya CM Conrad Sangma on July 23 to “amicably resolve the border dispute between Assam and Meghalaya.”

“I will also meet Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu to discuss the inter-state border situation. I think we can expect some headway in regard to the Assam-Meghalaya and Assam-Arunachal Pradesh border discussions,” added CM Sarma.

As per reports, after today’s meeting in Shillong, another meeting will take place in Guwahati on the border issue where a team of officials from both states will be present.  

Moreover, the Meghalaya CM stated that there might be a joint visit to the areas by the officials of both states.

As per reports, four states- Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland and Mizoram have encroached a total of 69010.82 hectares of land of Assam.
