The Assam Department of Women and Child Development issued an order suspending the accused CDPO from his position...


Digital Desk: In an unusual incident, a Child Development Project Officer (CDPO) has been suspended after reportedly accepting a bribe from Anganwadi employees and returning the money after two months.


The incident was reported in Raha, Assam's Nagaon district.


Dimbeswar Mahanta is the accused CDPO. According to sources, Mahanta accepted a payment of Rs 20,000 from Anganwadi workers to settle a job-related petition filed before the high court.


The Assam Department of Women and Child Development issued an order suspending the accused CDPO from his position.


The department's order stated, "Whereas a report has been received from Director, Women & Child Development, Assam vide his letter No. DWCD(ICDS)E/81/2022/47 dated 28.06.2023 to the effect that Shri Dimbeswar Mahanta, Child Development Project Officer, Raha ICDS Project, District- Nagaon is allegedly involved in corrupt practices."

 The order was read further, "Whereas the Governor of Assam is satisfied that it is necessary and expedient to place Shri Dimbeswar Mahanta, Child Development Project Officer, Raha ICDS Project, District- Nagaon under suspension with immediate effect."


According to the ruling, the accused has been suspended under Rule 6(1) of the Assam Services (Discipline & Appeal) Rules, 1964.
