The accused have been charged with submitting fraudulent work orders to organisations located outside of the state...

Digital Desk: On September 16, Abhayapuri police arrested one person in connection with a large fraud case involving the Kamatapur Autonomous Council (KAC).

The culprit, Pankaj Das of Bijni in Chirang district, was detained for his suspected role in the embezzlement of Rs 100 crore through false work orders. This fraudulent action involved the forging of the KAC principal secretary's signatures and seals.

Dhruvajyoti Das, the KAC's principal secretary, had already filed a First Information Report (FIR) with the Abhayapuri police station on this occurrence.

Following that, the Abhayapuri police launched an investigation based on the FIR and caught one of the individuals implicated in this financial scam. However, one of the accused remains missing.

The accused have been charged with submitting fraudulent work orders to organisations located outside of the state, resulting in huge financial losses. Abhayapuri police have opened an investigation into the event under sections 420/468/471 of the Indian Penal Code.

The Koch-Rajbanshi National Forum's secretary, Biswajit Ray, voiced significant concern over the situation. He emphasised the Kamatapur Autonomous Council's critical role in the region's development.

Ray stated that recent media stories have thrown light on the squandering of cash provided for the council's development.
