Guwahati: All the MLA’S of opposition parties of Assam stage protest against Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma for his comment towards the MLA’s of Assam. Moreover, the protest starts from Gopinath Bordoloi Bhavan to the Legislative Assembly campus.

On July 6, the CM in a meeting at Sarbhog commented that the role of the MLA’s is only to formulate laws and have no role in governing as such in the respective constituencies. The main work is actually emphasised by the ministers.

The CM also added that it is the duty of the Ministers to implement them and that the Bureaucrat or government official will only listen to the ministers.

Soon after the CM’s comment the MLA’s of the opposition parties including Raijor Dal President Akhil Gogoi and CPI (m) slammed the CM over his controversial statement.

The CPI (M), in a statement had stated, "The public of a constituency always approach the MLA with their issues. So, the Chief Minister has not only insulted the MLA but also demeaned the people at large.

Meanwhile, the Raijor Dal Chief said, “The Assam CM tried to reduce the power of MLAs. His statement was against the established norms, many Supreme Court judgments outlining the power of an MLA and the spirit of the Constitution. It is very dangerous for our democracy.” Gogoi said at a press conference today.”

Further, Akhil Gogoi added that if the CM cannot show any rule, I demand a public apology from him for trying to demean the MLAs of Assam. I appeal to all MLAs of the state to oppose his statement. I will raise this in the upcoming Assembly session.
