Amidst heightened border tensions between Assam and Meghalaya, the Assam Police on Friday launched dedicated helplines to assist residents of the state who are either stranded in Meghalaya or encountering difficulties while attempting to travel back. This initiative comes in the wake of a reported vehicle blockade at Jorabat, exacerbating the already strained situation.
A statement released by the police indicated that family members, relatives, or any individual possessing information about persons or vehicles facing challenges in Meghalaya can now share crucial details. The helplines include a WhatsApp number, 9181014888, and a landline, 0361-2381511. To facilitate effective assistance, callers are urged to provide information such as the name of the individual, their contact number, vehicle registration details, current location, and any other pertinent particulars.
Officials stated that all information received through these helplines will be promptly relayed to the concerned authorities, local administration, and police in Meghalaya. This collaborative approach aims to ensure that necessary assistance reaches those affected without delay. The Assam government and Assam Police are also maintaining continuous communication with their counterparts in Meghalaya, reiterating their commitment to providing all possible support to individuals impacted by the prevailing circumstances.
While efforts are underway to resolve the immediate challenges, the public has been appealed to maintain peace and order, fostering an environment conducive to de-escalation and resolution. The state administration remains focused on ensuring the safety and well-being of its citizens amidst the inter-state developments.
