Assam Police have apprehended fourteen individuals suspected of infiltration into the state, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced on Friday, underscoring the government's commitment to state security. The Chief Minister, while not elaborating on the specifics of the apprehensions, affirmed that necessary legal procedures were being initiated against those detained.
Addressing the development, CM Sarma emphasized that these efforts are part of a broader strategy to thwart potential "nefarious designs" within Assam's borders. He highlighted the continuous vigilance of the state's law enforcement agencies in maintaining peace and security. "Fourteen such infiltrators have been apprehended by Assam Police, and appropriate action has been taken against them. Assam remains ," he stated.

Recent data presented to the state Assembly revealed that close to 2,100 illegal foreigners, with a significant majority of 2,023 identified as Bangladeshi nationals, have been deported, expelled, or repatriated from Assam over the past ten years.
