Girls in Assam were lured and kidnapped by a group of human traffickers who made them promises of jobs in neighbouring states before selling them for cash.

Aleka Begum, Akher Ali, Ashraful Alom, Saddam Hussain, Jainur Ali, Azad Hussain, Delbar Hussain, Nur Mohammad, and Anuwar Hussain are the nine people that have been detained.

After conducting search operations to discover the state's human traffickers with the assistance of the local Haryana Police, who had information about the traffickers hiding in the state's underbelly, the culprits were apprehended by a squad of Assam Police from the Barpeta division of Haryana.

In order to influence the girls' emotions into travelling with them to other states and eventually selling them to larger human trafficking rings that are prevalent in states like Rajasthan and Haryana, the accused individuals allegedly used to develop relationships with the females.

According to allegations, the gang bought girls of all ages to sell and paid approximately 3 lakhs for each girl they delivered. In the meantime, the police also freed two Assamese girls from Barpeta and Mangaldai who were being held by the gang. It should be mentioned that Assam has recorded a total of 174 cases of human trafficking since May 2021. The ones that haven't been reported are still hidden.
