In this regard, Assam Police arrested 453 land brokers in raids conducted across the state as part of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led government’s crackdown on ‘dalals’ or brokers operating in-land revenue and circle offices. The raids followed two weeks after chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma notified land revenue and circle officers to remove land brokers from their offices before October 3, 2022.  The brokers were picked up from different parts of the State on September 20, 2022, for indulging in unlawful activities involving land sale, purchase, and holding.
