Digital Desk: According to the National Crime Record Bureau's "Crime in India" report from the previous year, Assam had the highest rate of crimes against women for the fifth consecutive year in 2021.

The number of crimes reported for every lakh persons is used to compute the rate.

The figures show that Assam's rate of crimes against women increased from 154.3 in 2020 to 168.3 in 2017. Rajasthan came in at 105.4, followed by Odisha at 137.8 and Haryana at 119.7.

According to the actual number of cases Rajasthan (40,738), Maharashtra (39,526), West Bengal (35,884), and Odisha were in second and third place, respectively, behind Uttar Pradesh with 56,083 cases (31,352).

In 2021, Nagaland had the lowest rate of crimes against women (5.5). It also has the fewest actual cases-54-of any country.

The Indian Penal Code, as well as special and municipal legislation, were used to record a total of 4,28,278 cases of crimes against women throughout the nation last year. In comparison to the 3,71,503 instances reported in 2020, the figure is 15.3% higher.

 

Decline in criminal cases

Last year, 60,96,310 offences were reported across the nation. When compared to 66,01,285 cases in 2020, this represented a 7.6% decrease in all offences.

According to the data, "crime rate registered per lakh population has fallen from 487.8 in 2020 to 445.9 in 2021." "During 2021, the number of cases registered under the Indian Penal Code (IPC) decreased by 13.9%, whilst the number of offences under special and local laws (SLL) increased by 3.7% over 2020."

1,01,707 of the total instances involved kidnapping and abduction, 31,677 involved rape, and 29,272 involved murder.

According to the research, crimes against children, such as kidnapping and rape, rose by 16.2% throughout the nation in 2021. Madhya Pradesh (19,173), Maharasthra (17,261), and Uttar Pradesh had the most cases reported (16,838).

The research states that in 2021, there were 27.7% more instances of human trafficking in the nation.
