GUWAHATI: Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Wednesday announced the state government’s plans to lift more Covid-19 restrictions in the state from October 1.

The chief minister however said that online classes will continue in the state from lower primary to class eight for the moment.

On the other hand, Sarma said that offline classes for class nine, 11 and Degree second year will resume from October 1.

He said that COVID-19 restrictions will be lifted from all the national parks and wildlife sanctuaries of the state from October 1 while wildlife safari, hotels and resorts have also been allowed to operate from the same day.

Meanwhile, Assam recorded four more COVID-19 deaths over the past 24 hours pushing the death toll to 5,817.

On the other hand, the COVID-19 tally in the state rose to 5.99 lakh as 407 more people tested positive for the infection during the period.

The four fatalities were reported from Kamrup (M), Lakhimpur, Nagaon and Sonitpur districts. The current death rate stands at 0.97 per cent.

Of the fresh cases, 93 were reported from Kamrup (M), Golaghat (39) while Darrang and Jorhat districts recorded 34 cases each.

The new cases were detected out of 61,076 tests conducted on Wednesday with the daily positivity rate at 0.67 per cent.

As many as 604 patients were discharged from different hospitals during the day, taking the total number of recoveries to 5.89 lakh.

The recovery rate among coronavirus patients in the state currently stands at 98.21 per cent. Assam now has 3,533 active cases.

The state has so far tested over 2.19 crore samples for COVID-19.

Over 2.27 crore people have been inoculated in the state so far with 49.26 lakh of them having received both doses of the COVID-19 vaccine.
