Digital Desk: Assam Rifles in a joint operation with different law enforcement agencies seized drugs worth Rs 12 crore and a huge cache of explosives in separate operations in Mizoram. They also arrested 6 persons in connection with the cases.
A defence spokesperson informed that Assam Rifles in a collaborative effort with the Excise and Narcotics Department recovered addictive Methamphetamine tablets weighing 3.33 kg worth Rs 9.99 crore from the Champhai district of Mizoram. They arrested three persons for smuggling the tablets. These tablets are also known as Yaba or party tablets.
In another search operation, Assam Rifles and the Excise and Narcotics Department seized heroin weighing 116.81 grams worth Rs. 82 lakh from the Lawngtlai district. They arrested a drug peddler in connection with the case.
In the third operation, the para-military force recovered Heroin worth Rs. 82.50 lakh and arrested a Myanmar national identified as Thangdeihpau at Zokhawthar in Champhai district.
The fourth operation was carried out in Champhai district recovering 32 bags of illegal Areca nuts worth Rs. 18 lakh. Assam Rifles said that the drugs and contraband are smuggled from the neighbouring country Myanmar.
In the fifth operation, Assam Rifles and Mizoram police arrested two persons from two vehicles in the Edenthar area of Aizawl-Sairang road following a mobile vehicle check post. The security personnel recovered 800 detonators and 2000 gelatin sticks from their possession.
