Digital Desk: North Eastern Electric Power Corporation Limited (NEEPCO) opened up to six gates of the Khandong Dam at Umrangso in Assam's Dima Hasao.

According to sources, the decision to release the dam gates was made when the water levels in the Khargol and Kopili rivers exceeded the dam's capacity.

This comes amid torrential rains in Assam and the Northeast. Last year, an accident at NEEPCO's 75 Megawatt project halted all operations, as it still does today.

It's needed to be noted that repairs to the hydroelectric project are still ongoing. In contrast, the Kopili River's water level has surged over hazardous thresholds as a result of the state's recent heavy rains.

The district administration ran campaigns to warn individuals living along the river's banks to move to safer areas. The authorities also warned them to take safeguards.
