Digital Desk: The Board of Secondary Education, Assam (SEBA) has withdrawn the affiliation of 105 private/venture schools in the state with effect from March 31, 2023, due to their poor performance in the HSLC (High School Leaving Certificate) and AHM (Assam High Madrassa) examinations in 2022.
Hence, starting from April 1, 2023, none of the 105 schools will be able to register any students in Class IX.
According to an order issued in this regard, the SEBA initiated the action following a thorough analysis of the 2022 HSLC/AHM results. During the inquiry, SEBA found that the performance of 294 private and venture schools was poor. These schools' pass percentages range from 0 to 10. Throughout the past five years, 41 of the 294 schools have performed extremely poorly. SEBA issued show-cause notices to the 294 schools on June 28 and July 11, 2022, requesting them to explain why their affiliation should not be cancelled. However, 107 schools did not respond to the notices.
The SEBA evaluated the responses of 187 schools seeking a second chance to improve their results. Based on the physical verification reports, SEBA granted a second chance to two schools, one in Nagaon and the other in Lakhimpur.
The district-wise break-up of the 105 de-affiliated schools is: 1 each in Charaideo, Hailakandi, Karimganj, Nalbari and Chirang; 2 each in Goalpara, Hojai, Majuli and Udalguri; 3 each in Baksa, Cachar, Biswanath, West Karbi Anglong, Karbi Anglong and Nagaon; 4 each in Dhubri, Barpeta, Dima Hasao, Sivasagar, Kamrup, Morigaon; 5 each in Bongaigaon, Jorhat and Sonitpur; 6 each in Golaghat and Kamrup (M); 7 in Dibrugarh; 8 in Kokrajhar and 9 in Tinsukia.
