Digital Desk: Authorities allegedly opened fire on a suspected communicator of the proscribed militant organisation United Liberation Front of Asom-Independent (ULFA-I) in a recent police encounter in Tinsukia, Assam.

According to authorities, the event occurred during a search for hidden bombs in the area.

During the operation, the young person, identified as Juman Bora from Jorhat, was shot in the left leg while attempting to flee the police, also 8 kg bomb was discovered in Mamorani, Tinsukia.

Juman Bora is now being treated at a non-military hospital in Tinsukia. The inquiry is still ongoing, according to authorities.

Earlier that day, on July 23, the banned armed rebel group publicly threatened Assam Director General of Police GP Singh, demanding that he either stop staging phoney encounters against villagers or leave the state.

This came just hours after troops from the Indian Army and the Assam Police detained a woman in Dibrugarh for allegedly having suspected ties to a banned party.

"We have learned that Dibrugarh police nabbed a woman from Tinsukia's Laipuli along with Rs 3 lakh on Sunday, suspecting her of extorting money in the name of ULFA-I," stated self-styled captain Rumel Axom (undersigned), ULFA-I (Media Department) in a press statement. We wish to emphasise that the woman has no ties to ULFA-I, therefore please refrain from abusing local citizens in the name of ULFA-I." the statement added.
