Digital Desk: The Assam Cabinet announced that the Teachers Eligibility Test, or TET, will no longer be necessary for graduate and postgraduate teachers of secondary schools. Instead, the state government would hold a TET-cum-Recruitment Test for GT & PGT in Secondary Schools. With the introduction of the TET-cum-recruitment test, Assam aims to ensure that its educators are well-qualified and proficient in their particular topics.

It should be noted that the TET exam is a requirement for teaching jobs in India. However, the Assam government provided relief to graduate and postgraduate teachers who were previously required to appear for the exam. Assam education minister, Ranoj Pegu tweeted in his official handle, "Assam Cabinet Decides: TET will not be required for Graduate and Post Graduate Teachers of Secondary Schools. Assam will conduct TET-cum-Recruitment Test for GT & PGT of Secondary Schools. Successful candidates will be equal to the number of vacancies."

The Assam cabinet has also stated that the number of successful candidates will be equal to the number of vacancies. This move is intended to attract competent educators who will have a substantial impact on the quality of education provided to the state's young minds.

This year Assam Special TET 2023 Registration was conducted between March 5 and March 25, 2023. On April 30, 2023, the Assam Government conducted the Assam Teachers Eligibility Test for candidates who applied for the position of Lower Primary and Upper Primary teacher. The exam consisted of two papers of two and a half hours each, with 150 MCQ-based questions. Candidates who are blind or visually impaired were given an additional 20 minutes.
