Digital Desk: The Assam unit of Trinamool Congress (TMC) took a dig at the Himanta Biswa Sarma-led state government for allegedly charging a fee of Rs 300 for each Durga Puja committee and Rs 100 for idol immersion.

Bora further said that the Assam BJP government, which is struggling with debt, has now resorted to levying taxes across all sectors to generate revenue.

In a video released today, Ripun Bora, the president of the Assam Trinamool Congress and a former member of the Rajya Sabha, expressed his worries and expressed his deep dissatisfaction over the imposition of taxes on sacred spiritual events like Durga Puja.

The Assam Trinamool Congress strongly opposes this draconian decision of the government in a video message.

According to President Ripun Bora, it would be nothing short of a sad and regrettable situation if the people of the state had to pay taxes for the worship of Goddess Durga. The state government should therefore immediately revoke such a drastic decision.

It should be mentioned that the state government imposed a fee of Rs 300 for each Durga Puja and Rs 100 for idol immersion from Friday afternoon.

Puja committees will be permitted to conduct or immerse the puja only after making this payment through treasury challans.
