Guwahati: ‘Water Burial’, a film based on Monpa dialect of Arunachal Pradesh has won the Best film award in environment conservation category at the 67th National Awards, 2021. The film was inspired by the Assamese novel ‘Saba Kota Manuh’, which is written by Yeshe Dorjee Thongchi.

The film which has been able to grab the attention of the national media and film critics is directed by independent filmmaker Shantanu Sen and is presented by Sanjive Narain, Chief Managing Director, Prag News, produced by AM television and is co-produced by Faruque Iftikar.

Assam Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma congratulated Sanjive Narain as ‘Water Burial’ received the National Film Award ‘Swarna Kamal’ best film on environment conservation in feature film category in India. On the occasion of World Environment Day on June 5 the announcement was made.

Moreover, Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu congratulates the entire team of Water Burial and tweeted, “Delighted to know Water Burial, a film based on Monpa dialect of Arunachal, based on a novel by Yeshe Dorjee Thongchi Ji has won Best Film Award on Environment Conservation category at the National Films Awards 2021. Congratulations to the entire team for the splendid achievement.”

The film’s storyline centred on an anthropologist who sets off to find his favourites drink. The journey takes him to a remote place named ‘Jung’, where he stumbles upon a local tribe’s dark rituals. Thus he takes up the mission of bringing it forth into the mainstream.

Moreover, the film has also introduced some new faces to the industry which includes Alex Piringu, Tshering Dorjee, Sonam Lhamu, and Tshering Petton.
