Babar Azam needed 98 runs before the game started to break Kohli's record, and he did so in style.

Digital Desk: Pakistan captain Babar Azam progressed his rich vein of form in international cricket with a century in the first ODI against West Indies in Multan, laying the groundwork for an exciting chase that saw the hosts reach the target of 306 runs with 4 balls to spare. Babar Azam's 103 off 107 balls was the foundation of Pakistan's innings. He was assisted by Imam-ul-Haq (65) and Mohammad Rizwn (59).

Khushdil Shah provided the finishing touch, staying unbeaten on 41 off 23 balls. Babar has now scored over 1000 runs in one-day internationals since taking over as Pakistan's captain. He accomplished this feat in just 13 innings, breaking former India captain Virat Kohli's previous record of 17 innings.

The Pakistan Cricket Board took to Instagram to celebrate Babar's success.

The Pakistan captain is currently the best player in international cricket, ranking first in T20Is and ODIs and fourth in Tests.

It must be noted that even so, 7 of these 13 innings have come on flat ground at home. But it doesn't change the fact that Babar is one of the best batsmen on the international scene right now.
