Digital Desk: Public and private banks across India will remain closed for considerable days in January 2022. A new year and a new month to bring a list of bank holidays for the bank employees across the nation. Bank employees can further enjoy consecutive days off in the first month of 2022.

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has issued a list of bank holidays for January 2022. The list alsostated that banking services in the country would remain affected for nine days. They will further stay closed on the second and fourth Saturdays and Sundays next month.

The Reserve Bank of India has also classified holidays under three classes — Holiday under Negotiable Instruments Act; Holiday under Negotiable Instruments Act and Real-Time Gross Settlement Holiday; and Banks’ Closing of Accounts. 

Public and private banks will stay closed for 16 days in January 2022. However, online services and mobile banking will continue to work on holidays. However, these holidays are not uniformly listed because occasions and events differ from one state to another.

January 1, 2022: New Year (across India)

January 2, 2022: Sunday

January 4, 2022: Loosong (Sikkim) 

January 8, 2022: Second Saturday

January 9, 2022: Sunday

January 11, 2022: Missionary Day (Mizoram)

January 12, 2022: Birth of Swami Vivekananda (Kolkata)

January 14, 2022: Makar Sankranti (Multiple States)

January 16, 2022: Sunday

January 18, 2022: Thai Poosam (Chennai)

January 22, 2022: Fourth Saturday

January 23, 2022: Sunday 

January 26, 2022: Republic Day

January 30, 2022: Sunday 

January 31, 2022: Me-Dam-Me-Phi (Assam)

Therefore, customers should be concerned about making significant transactions keeping the list of holidays in mind. Customers will not be able to withdraw cash from the banks but can continue with their online banking services and Automatic Teller Machines (ATMs).
