New Delhi: The employees of public sector banks, including major banks like State Bank of India (SBI), staged a protest against the move to privatize public sector banks, affecting normal banking operations across the country.

The bank employees went on a two-day strike today and will continue till December 17, 2021. However, the private sector banks like HDFC Bank, ICICI Bank, Axis Bank etc., continue to hold normal working schedules.

Sanjay Das, general secretary of All India Bank Officers Confederation (AIBOC), stated that besides the two-day strike, other agitational agendas would be carried out if the government did not give up the idea of privatizing banks. 

In the budget speech of 2021, Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman had stated that two public sector banks would be privatized during the current financial year.
