Bengaluru Civic body spends 6 crores to pave road for Modi's visit, but caves in a day later

Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai has now suggested that the matter be investigated by the BBMP commissioner.

Digital Desk: Major embarrassment for the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) as they spent Rs 23.51 crore to lay asphalt on Bengaluru roads ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit.

 A day later, during Modi's visit, a scrap of a road caved in barely was asphalted. Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai has requested that the BBMP commissioner to investigate the matter.

The asphalting of the Jnana Bharthi Main Road in southern Bengaluru cost Rs 6.05 crore. The municipal body covered a 3.6-kilometre stretch of land within the Bengaluru university campus. 

Prime Minister Narendra Modi travelled to the Dr B R Ambedkar School of Economics (BASE) University to inaugurate the campus. Unfortunately, following a day of moderate rain, the road caved just a few metres from the BASE gate.

While BBMP engineers suspect that the shaft was caused by water leaking or a sewage pipeline beneath the surface, one of them stated that it was built in such a short time that quality work could not have been done. 

According to a local officer, "the road was primarily asphalted for the PM's visit, and the work began only five days before the event." So all they needed was for the road to be in good condition when the Prime Minister came to visit. it isn't the first time, and it won't be the last." 

According to figures gathered from various authorities, the civic bodies and district authorities of Karnataka spent around Rs 56 crore, mostly to asphalt the roads taken by Narendra Modi during his two-day visit to Karnataka.

Before the Prime Minister's visit, the BBMP had redeveloped a total of 14.05 kilometres of road. 

As per BBMP data, the civic agency spent Rs 4.06 crore on the 2.4-kilometre Ballari Road, Rs 1.55 crore on the 0.9-kilometre Tumkur Road, and Rs 6.05 crore on the 3.6-kilometer University Road, Rs 35 lakh on the 0.15-kilometre Mysuru Road, and Rs 11.5 crore on the 7-kilometre Kommaghatta Road.
