Digital Desk: More than 500 members of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in Chhattisgarh quit in mass on Tuesday, joining the BJP, striking a serious blow to the party.
Following the departure of six other important members including the head of the AAP's Chhattisgarh section earlier this month, there has been a mass exodus.
The defectors' grounds for joining the BJP were their disenchantment with the leadership of the AAP and their appreciation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's growth and nationalist program. They applauded the BJP's record of administration and the construction of the Ram temple in Ayodhya as a symbol of national religion.
The action is interpreted as a response to the top brass of the AAP's alleged indifference to the issues and election strategy of the state unit. Hupendi, a party member since 2016, expressed his displeasure with the central leadership's lack of backing for the 2023 assembly elections.
AAP only fielded candidates in 54 constituencies and failed to win a single seat, receiving less than 1% of the vote share, despite earlier aspirations to contest all 90 seats.
