Even though Chanu's incredible accomplishment won't be officially announced until the World Cup is over, it is a historic occasion for weightlifting in India.

Digital Desk: Olympic medallist Mirabai Chanu has emerged as the only weightlifter from India to qualify for the Paris Olympics, marking a major accomplishment for the sport. Following a strong showing in the IWF World Cup in Phuket, Thailand, the 29-year-old athlete accomplished this milestone.

Chanu, who just made her competitive comeback after a six-month injury layoff, demonstrated her skills by placing third in Group B of the women's 49kg division and earning the 11th spot overall in the competition. Her World Cup lift of 184 kg was crucial in securing her spot in the 2024 Paris Olympics.

Chanu has completed the requirements for qualification for the Paris Olympics, which include competing in two required events and three additional qualifiers, by participating in the World Cup. In the women's 49kg Olympic Qualification Ranking (OQR), she is currently ranked second, just behind Jiang Huihua of China.

Even though Chanu's incredible accomplishment won't be officially announced until the World Cup is over, it is a historic occasion for weightlifting in India. More emphasis will be placed on Chanu's achievement as the top 10 lifters in each weight class will be guaranteed a spot at the Paris Olympics.
