To prevent electoral malpractices, the police and district administration in Hojai conducted campaigns against the distribution of money to voters.

Digital Desk: A combined operation by officials in Lanka in the Hojai district of Assam on Sunday resulted in the seizure of almost Rs 11 lakh, purportedly intended for distribution among the public before the North Cachar Hills Autonomous Council (NCHAC) elections on January 8.

Perhaps most importantly, the large seizure occurs on the day that the election campaign officially ends. Authorities stated that a candidate for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) from the East Maibang constituency in Dima Hasao was detained along with cash.

To prevent electoral malpractices, the police and district administration in Hojai conducted campaigns against the distribution of money to voters.

Amidst the situation, Manjoy Langthasa, the BJP candidate for East Maibang, was taken into custody. The irony is that this occurred after the candidate had previously won the seat without opposition.

As per the officers of Lanka Police, Langthasa was apprehended while en route to Hatikhali constituency to distribute money among the voters.
