Digital Desk: A day after the Bharatiya Janata Party apparently ignored the recent delimitation exercise in Assam and made a major mistake in their election listing, the party revealed a revised list that included the names of the candidates running in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections as well as the current constituency names.
This comes as the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) declared on March 2, the first list of candidates for the Lok Sabha elections in 2024.
According to the Lok Sabha LS constituency listing, the BJP party allegedly included Karimganj under Scheduled Caste (SC) instead, it is Silchar that has received this status.
Furthermore, the BJP has replaced the Mangaldai constituency that it had identified as Darrang-Udalguri.
In the same way, Kaliabor was renamed Kaziranga, and Kaliabor has transitioned to Kaziranga, which is a constituency now.
On these inaccuracies, the Assam BJP party has not yet responded.
ECI released the final delimitation decision for the Assembly and Parliamentary Constituencies of the State of Assam earlier in August 2023, after extensive consultations with stakeholders.
As specified by Articles 170 and 82 of the Constitution, the boundaries of all State Assembly and Parliamentary Constituencies have been established using data from the 2001 Census. Consequently, the only data taken into consideration for this purpose are the 2001 census numbers as released by the Census Commissioner.
There are 126 seats in the State of Assam's Legislative Assembly, while 14 seats have been allotted to the State in the House of People.
