In response to the results of the Karnataka polls on Saturday, the Assam Chief Minister stated that he knew the BJP would not deliver positive results to the state.
Digital Desk: As the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) lost its only stronghold in South India, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said the party's defeat in Karnataka came as no surprise.
In response to the results of the Karnataka polls on Saturday, the Assam Chief Minister stated that he knew the BJP would not deliver positive results to the state. He further added that throughout his campaigning in the state, he received similar comments.
"It was kind of fixed that the BJP would not do "that well" in Karnataka. It comes as no surprise to me. I could already sense the vibe when campaigning there," CM Sarma stated.
"Congress formed the government in Karnataka even after the last election." "After a while, our (BJP) emerged there," he added.
On May 1, Himanta Biswa Sarma attacked the Congress party for harming the state's socio-political purity through failing policies. CM Sarma blasted Congress during a road show in Tumakuru, saying that after dominating the state for 56 years, no support was provided to Lingayats, Vokkaligas communities, and scheduled castes and tribes.
Meanwhile, Karnataka BJP leader B S Yediyurappa said that victory and defeat are nothing new for the party and that it will reflect on the setback as the Congress pushed ahead with counting for the state's assembly elections still ongoing.
