Digital Desk: A blood broker has been arrested in Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) premises on Thursday who was allegedly involved in selling blood in return for money.

According to reports, the broker identified as Sheikh used to sell blood for Rs 10,000.

"Today a person complaint to our GMCH blood bank in-charge, Dr Dipankar Baruah about a miscreant charging Rs 10,000 for the exchange of blood," GMCH Superintendent Abhijit Sarma said in a media statement.

Sharma further said that the accused had admitted that ten other persons were involved in the horrible crime with him and that Dhan, the racket's leader, resided in Geeta Nagar.

Additionally, the GMCH Superintendent stated that till now the hospital authority had apprehended at least 18–19 of these blood brokers.

The accused has currently been handed over to the police for further investigation.
