In a direct assessment of Assam's flood devastation, Bodoland People's Front (BPF) chief and Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) Chief Executive Member, Hagrama Mohilary, recently toured the inundated areas of Sivasagar district. During his visit, Mohilary not only reviewed the ground situation and distributed essential relief materials but also strongly advocated for the urgent reconstruction of breached embankments, a concern he plans to bring to the attention of the Central government.
Accompanied by Sibsagar MLA and Raijor Dal president Akhil Gogoi, Mohilary's inspection began in the remote villages falling under Saulkora panchayat. He subsequently navigated through several other waterlogged localities, including Molia Bheta, utilising a State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) rubber boat to reach affected residents. The BPF chief led a delegation of approximately 120 party members, who joined in the efforts to provide immediate assistance.
The delegation brought a range of relief supplies specifically chosen to address the immediate needs of flood victims. These included crucial items such as mosquito nets, bed sheets, phenol, bleaching powder, and other daily essentials, which were distributed directly to affected families struggling with the aftermath of the deluge.
Speaking to reporters during his visit, Mohilary articulated the primary objective of his tour. "I have come here to take stock of the situation in Sivasagar and Charaideo. Our sole agenda is to comprehend the immediate needs of the people during this period of distress and to extend whatever assistance we possibly can," he stated. While acknowledging the Assam government's ongoing efforts in providing relief, Mohilary underscored that additional support, particularly for long-term infrastructure repair like embankment reconstruction, is paramount to mitigating future flood impacts in the region.
