Guwahati; The State Health Minister Keshab Mahanta announced on Saturday a new SOP (Standard Operating Procedure) wherein the government has decided to impose night curfew from 11:30 pm to 6 am. The 'Assam New SOP' has been released ahead of the New Year Celebrations as Omicron cases continue to surge in the country.

All business establishments, shops have been directed to shut down their outlets by 10:30 pm as per the 'Assam New SOP'.

Exception has been given on 31st December, considering it to be New Year’s eve.

To prevent the advent and spread of the new Covid variant, the Assam Government has released this new SOP.

Regarding the crowd limit in open spaces, the jurisdictional DDMAs have been ordered to fix the number of gatherings and for closed venues, the crowd limit has been allowed for 50 percent.

Cinema halls, have been allowed to operate with 50 percent sitting capacity as per the directions mentioned in the Assam New SOP.

Religious places are allowed entry for devotees to the sanctum with 60 fully vaccinated persons per hour (in iconic places) and 40 fully vaccinated persons per hour for other religious places.

The Assam New SOP also strictly mentions that anyone found violating the Covid norms such as not wearing mask and spitting in public places, shall invite stringent punishment along with a penalty of Rs 1000.

All District Magistrates, Superintendent of Police, an all concerned authorities have been directed to ensure Covid appropriate behaviour in all public spaces for containment of Covid-19 virus.
