Guwahati: Dibrugarh Police arrested the owner of the boat that was involved in the horrific Nimatighat boat tragedy on September 8. Pani Ram Kalita, the owner of the ill-fated boat - 'Ma Kamala' has been arrested by the Dibrugarh police.
Pani Ram Kalita was trying to escape when the Dibrugarh police acted swiftly upon receiving inputs and arrested Kalita.
It may be mentioned here that a horrific boat tragedy took place on September 8 after two vessels, one belonging to Pani ram Kalita and the other, a ferry owned by the Inland Water Transport department, collided and capsized in Brahmaputra river. Two persons died in the incident while one is still missing.
A high level probe has been ordered in the case by the Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.
