New Delhi: The Central Drugs Standard Control Organization (CDSCO) approves another two covid-19 vaccines for emergency use in India on Tuesday.

CDSCO also approves Molnupiravir, an anti-viral drug for restricted use in an emergency situation.

The two latest vaccines approved by CDSCO are Corbevax and Covavax.

Corbevax, manufactured by Hyderabad-based firm Biological-E, is the first indigenously developed RBD protein subunit vaccine. While, Covavax, a nanoparticle vaccine, is manufactured by Pune-based firm Serum Institute of India.

On the other hand, the anti-viral drug, Molnupiravir will be made by 13 companies in the country for emergency use to treat adult patients who have a high chance of advancing the disease.

Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya tweeted, “Further strengthening the fight against COVID-19, CDSCO, @MoHFW_INDIAhas given 3 approvals in a single day for: - CORBEVAX vaccine- COVOVAX vaccine - Anti-viral drug Molnupiravir for restricted use in an emergency situation.”

“CORBEVAX vaccine is India’s 1st indigenously developed RBD protein sub-unit vaccine against #COVID19, Made by Hyderabad-based firm Biological-E. The Nanoparticle Vaccine, COVOVAX, will be manufactured by Pune-based firm Serum Institute of India.” he tweeted.

“PM @NarendraModi Ji has led the battle against #COVID19 from the front. All these approvals will further strengthen the global fight against the pandemic. Our Pharma Industries are asset for the entire world.” he tweeted.

This brings the total number of vaccines approved for emergency use in India to eight.

Covishield from Serum Institute of India, Covaxin from Bharat Biotech, ZyCoV-D from Zydus Cadila, Sputnik V from Russia, Moderna from the United States, and Johnson & Johnson have all gained emergency use authorization so far.
