Digital Desk: In a major security response to cross-border infiltration, the Border Security Force (BSF) Meghalaya Frontier, in coordination with Meghalaya Police and over 200 local villagers, has launched a massive joint operation to flush out Bangladeshi miscreants from the Majersora–Hathinala forest region in South West Khasi Hills district.

The crackdown follows a violent incident on 8 August 2025, when a group of 8–9 armed intruders illegally crossed into Indian territory and attacked Rongdangai village. The miscreants injured a civilian by a knife, destroyed property, and tried to kidnap one of the local people, which caused an immediate alert.

BSF and Meghalaya Police carried rapidly-conducted high-intensity combing operation between 9th  and 11th  August resulting in the arrest of four suspects. They seized a Bangladesh Police ID card, wireless sets, wire cutters, Indian and Bangladesh currency, suspected explosive material and handcuffs by security forces. Thus,  far six trespassers have been taken. One, known as Akram of Sherpur, Bangladesh, was caught by the village people, and afterwards died of his wounds when receiving medical care.

On 12th  August,  the operation was intensified . BSF troops, backed by K9 units, Village Defence Parties and the Gumaghat and Ranikor stations of police, cut off escape routes. In the process, an effective suspected country-made bomb was retrieved intact.

Inspector General BSF Meghalaya Frontier, Shri O. P. Upadhyay, is directly overseeing the operation. He has also commended the courage and collaboration of security agencies and local villagers after which he confirmed that BSF is adamant in protecting the national borders and mitigating cross border menace.

The search continues to locate and apprehend the remaining infiltrators.
