Digital Desk: To make ticketing more efficient, and to eliminate long lines at the ticket counters the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has planned to install 145 Automatic Ticket Vending Machines (ATVMs) in 69 of its stations. The announcement was made on 18th August.


These ATVMs will operate as 24x7 unmanned kiosks where passengers can buy unreserved tickets using smart cards/ QR codes. The NFR indicated that the smart cards can be conveniently reloaded at fitted ticket counters and this makes the passage easy to commuters.


Chief Public Relations Officer Kapinjal Kishore Sharma also highlighted an improvement in train punctuality. He noted that mail and express trains have recorded a significant rise in on-time performance, nearing the Railway Board’s target of 85 percent.


The implementation of ATVMs is one of the significant steps towards digital convenience and efficient service for railway passengers in the Northeast region.
