Shillong: The Border Security Force nabbed as many as 19 Bangladeshi nationals, including women and children from East Khasi Hills district. The apprehended illegal Bangladeshi nationals include 13 males, 3 females and 3 children, including 2 touts.

The BSF received inputs from an internal source of suspicious movement of some people along the international border, bordering the East Khasi Hills district. An operation was thus launched at an unfenced route near the border and the Bangladeshi nationals were apprehended.

The infiltrators were trying to illegally cross an unfenced area under the Rynkhua BOP on September 27.

The arrested nationals have confirmed themselves to be the residents of the Sunamganj district in Bangladesh.

Preliminary investigations suggested that the infiltrators entered Indian border after being facilitated by a tout and they were heading towards Kashmir for menial work.

An investigation is underway to arrest the tout as well as confirm the real motive behind their infiltration.
