Karwar: A turned-over chemical tanker at Arbail Ghat on Yellapur-Ankola flared up massive fire on Wednesday morning. The tanker was carrying benzene from a subsidiary company in Mangalore Refinery.

As per reports, no cases of loss have been reported. The driver and the manager somehow managed to jump out of the vehicle before it started blazing out.

A painting firm in Gujarat ordered the chemicals. However, before reaching the destination, the tanker met with an accident at the Arbail ghat.

Soon after the accident, fire tender and police authorities rushed to the spot for assistance.

Moreover, 2km of green forest was affected due to a fire outbreak. The traffic was closed due to the fire accident.

The District Administration stated it is coordinating with MRPL. A team has been sent with neutralizing agents. A separate tanker to carry the chemical is being mobilized from Karwar by the company’s transporter.
