Digital Desk: Trinamool Congress leader Mahua Moitra has taken her battle to the highest legal echelons, filing a petition in the Supreme Court challenging her expulsion from the Lok Sabha. Moitra vehemently asserted that her ousting was "illegal" and raised concerns about the fairness of the process leading to her removal.

The expulsion came after the Lok Sabha's Ethics Committee found Moitra culpable of compromising national security by sharing her parliamentary portal's access with businessman Darshan Hiranandani. Additionally, she was accused of accepting gifts and undue favors from Hiranandani.

Moitra vigorously contested these allegations, asserting that she was denied the opportunity to defend herself during the ethics panel's proceedings. She also expressed dissatisfaction over her inability to cross-examine key accusers, including her estranged partner Jai Anant Dehadrai and BJP MP Nishikant Dubey, who had leveled the 'cash-for-query' accusations against her.

The Supreme Court's response to Moitra's petition remains awaited as the legal battle intensifies over the contentious expulsion from the Lok Sabha.
