A special CBI team headed by Sood had earlier arrived in Manipur on September 27 in order to expedite the investigation into the two Meitei students' purported murders.

Digital Desk: Chief of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), Praveen Sood, arrived at the Guwahati LGBI Airport on Monday at around 9:15 a.m. and proceeded to the Gorchuk area to the office of the Deputy Inspector General of Police (Guwahati Range) CBI.

The head of the CBI is reportedly going to assess the progress that the Special Investigation Teams (SITs) led by DIG-rank officials have made in looking into six violent instances that the state government of Manipur has submitted to them to look into.
According to a few trustworthy sources, he could also review the cases of the nine individuals who were charged in front of a special CBI court in Guwahati with murdering a Naga lady during ethnic unrest in Manipur.

This action complies with the Supreme Court of India's directives.

A special CBI team headed by Sood had earlier arrived in Manipur on September 27 in order to expedite the investigation into the two Meitei students' purported murders.

It should be mentioned that after clashes on September 26 between demonstrators, police, and troops from the Rapid Action Force, which left several people injured, tensions had increased. Taking to the streets, protestors are calling for justice for the kids who were abducted and killed.

The sources further state that the CBI Director, accompanied by a group of professionals, would take an exclusive aircraft to Manipur and then return to Guwahati in the late afternoon today.
Later on in the evening, he would head back to New Delhi.

Assam police had earlier sent two senior officers to support the Manipur government in investigating the incidents related to the violence in the state.

Anand Mishra (RR-2011), Superintendent of Police, Lakhimpur, and Randeep Kumar Baruah (DR-1993), Superintendent of Police (Border-II), are available to the Government of Manipur to assume command of the SITs established for Manipur incidents immediately upon request. This information is stated in a governor's notification.
