To conduct a more thorough investigation into the case, the CBI requested their extended detention for two additional days.

Digital Desk: In relation to a loan fraud case, a special Central Bureau of Investigation court in this city on Wednesday extended the CBI's custody of former ICICI Bank CEO MD Chanda Kochhar and her husband Deepak Kochhar and Videocon group founder Venugopal Dhoot till December 29.

Following a brief interrogation, the investigation agency last Friday detained Kochhars. Monday saw Dhoot's arrest.

After their initial remand on Wednesday, all three were brought before special judge S M Menjoge.

To conduct a more thorough investigation into the case, the CBI requested their extended detention for two additional days.

The judge extended Kochhar and Dhoot's custody until December 29 after hearing from both sides.

In its FIR filed in 2019 under Indian Penal Code sections related to criminal conspiracy and the Prevention of Corruption Act, the CBI had accused the Kochhars and Dhoot as well as businesses managed by Deepak Kochhar, including Nupower Renewables (NRL), Supreme Energy Private Limited (SEPL), Videocon International Electronics Ltd (VIEL), and Videocon Industries Limited.

The CBI claims that ICICI Bank violated the Banking Regulation Act, RBI norms, and the bank's credit policy when it approved loan facilities totaling Rs 3,250 crore for businesses in the Videocon Group that were promoted by Dhoot.

The CBI claims that Chanda Kochhar abused her official position as a public servant in 2009 to get a sanctioning committee under her direction to authorise a term loan of Rs 300 crore to VIEL, which was against the bank's norms and policies.

Dhoot transferred Rs 64 crore from VIEL to NRL through SEPL the day after the loan was disbursed.
