Digital Desk: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) filed a chargesheet against a senior Northeast Frontier Railways official on Monday after investigations into a case involving disproportionate assets.

The chargesheet was submitted against Northeast Frontier Railways' then-deputy Chief Engineer (Survey/Construction) in Maligaon, Guwahati, according to a statement from the investigating agency.

According to the CBI, the accused was the subject of a case that was filed on November 30, 2021, based on claims that his assets were out of proportion to his known sources of income.

According to the CBI's probe, between January 1, 2013, and December 31, 2019, "the accused had amassed assets disproportionate to his known source of income to the tune of Rs 2,15,28,395 approximately, and percentage of disproportionate assets came to around 89.96 per cent."

Moreover, the CBI notification stated that earlier searches conducted at the accused's locations in Jorhat and Guwahati resulted in the recovery of papers about immovable properties, locker keys, etc.

The chargesheet was filed following a thorough examination by the central probing body.
