Digital Desk: The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has issued new directives to affiliated schools regarding assessment and evaluation practices for the academic session 2024-25, with significant changes introduced for classes 11 to 12 annual examinations.
For classes 9-10, the question paper composition remains unchanged, emphasizing competency-focused questions in the form of MCQs/case-based questions (50%), select response type questions (MCQs) (20%), and constructed response questions (30%).
In contrast, for classes 11-12, notable alterations have been made. While the proportion of select response-type questions remains at 30%, there's a shift in competency-focused questions, increasing from 40% to 50%. Constructed response questions, including short answer and long answer types, have been adjusted from 40% to 30% in the academic session 2024-25.
These changes are aligned with the objectives of the National Education Policy (NEP) of 2020, emphasizing Competency-Based Education. The CBSE has been proactive in implementing measures to align assessments with NEP objectives, including developing exemplar resources for teachers and students, and continuous capacity building for educators.
According to the CBSE, the primary focus is to create an educational ecosystem that moves away from rote memorization towards fostering creative, critical, and systems thinking capacities in students, aligning with the demands of the 21st century.
These adjustments reflect CBSE's commitment to enhancing the quality of education and ensuring that assessment practices align with modern pedagogical approaches.
