Digital Desk: Assam Cabinet Minister for Disaster Management Jogen Mohan briefed reporters following a meeting chaired by Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Tuesday that the Centre has provided Rs 8,000 crores under three main disaster management programmes.

"The home minister has advised us regarding ways to minimise disasters," Jogen Mohan said at a press briefing following the meeting. We must be proactive to be prepared for any tragedy. The Centre has set aside Rs 8,000 crores for all states in this regard."

It should be mentioned that Union Home Minister Amit Shah unveiled three major disaster management initiatives totalling Rs 8,000 crores on Tuesday.


Amit Shah presided over a meeting with disaster management departments from states and union territories, where he revealed a Rs 5,000 crore project to further develop and modernise fire services across India.

Additionally, a Rs 2,500 crore project to reduce the risk of urban flooding for seven of India's most populous metros, namely Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Ahmedabad, and Pune, and a further Rs 825 crore National Landslide Risk Mitigation Scheme for 17 states.

"Around Rs 5,000 crore in assistance will be given to all states for the modernization and expansion of fire brigade services," he said. We have created a detailed strategy that will be sent to you. To reduce the risk of flooding in metropolitan areas, Rs 2,500 crore would be allocated to seven major cities: Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata, Bengaluru, Ahmedabad, Hyderabad, and Pune. It will send you a precise strategy." he further added.

"The central government will provide nearly Rs 825 crore to deal with landslides in 17 states," Shah stated.
