Digital Desk: According to the agreed-upon methodology, the central government is expected to raise the dearness allowance (DA) for its more than one crore employees and retirees by four percentage points, to 42 percent from the current 38 percent.
As per the most recent Consumer Price Index for Industrial Workers (CPI-IW), which the Labour Bureau releases each month, the dearness allowance for employees and pensioners is calculated. The Labor Ministry's Labor Bureau is a division of the ministry.
General Secretary of the All India Railwaymen Federation, Shiva Gopal Mishra, according to PTI: "January 31, 2023, saw the release of the CPI-IW for December 2022. A 4.23 percent increase in the dearness allowance is calculated. However, the government does not account for increases in DA beyond the decimal point. As a result, DA will probably rise by four percentage points to 42%."
He went on to say that the Union Cabinet will need to approve the plan before the Finance Ministry's expenditure section may propose raising DA and its income implications.
Beginning on January 1, 2023, the DA will increase.
More than one crore employees and pensioners of the central government currently receive a 38% dearness payment.
The most recent DA modification was completed on September 28, 2022, and it took effect on July 1, 2022.
Based on the percentage growth in the 12-month average of the All India Consumer Price Index for the period ending in June 2022, the Centre boosted DA by four percentage points to 38%.
