New Delhi: Centre is likely to introduce the Election Laws (Amendment) Bill, 2021 in the Lok Sabha today, reports said.

The bill will be introduced by the Union Law Minister Kiran Rijiju to amend the Representation of the People Act, 1950 and the Representation of the People Act, 1951.

The proposed bill allows the linking of electoral roll data with the Aadhaar. It also proposes the replacement of the word ‘wife’ with ‘spouse’, making the statutes gender-neutral in the Representation of the People Act 1951.

Additionally, the proposed bill allows electoral registration officers to ask the aadhaar number of people who want to register as voters to establish their identity.

On the other hand, the Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will likely introduce the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (Amendment) Bill in the Rajya Sabha.

The proposed bill seeks to replace the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (Amendment) Ordinance.
