Digital Desk: To honour the iconic singer Lata Mangeshkar, the central government has decided to issue a postal stamp, said Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw on Monday.
During the India Today Budget Round Table, the Union Minister of Railways, Communications and Electronics & Information Technology, Ashwini Vaishnaw, stated that the stamp would be an appropriate honour for the 'Nightingale of India.' Reportedly, it will be issued as a commemorative stamp.
The commemorative stamp is issued to commemorate significant events, renowned figures in many fields, features of nature, beautiful or rare flora and fauna, environmental issues, agricultural activities, national/international issues, games, and so on, according to the postal department. Only philatelic bureaux and counters, as well as the Philatelic Deposit Account Scheme, sell these stamps. They are printed only in a limited quantity.
The Department of posts-old' standards stipulates that people's stamps should not account for more than 10% of the Annual Issue Program.
Lata Mangeshkar, a legendary vocalist, died on February 6. After testing positive for covid-19, she was brought to Mumbai's Breach Candy Hospital on January 8. She received care in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) for the past few weeks.
Her health has deteriorated after showing signs of improvement previously. Unfortunately, she passed away on Sunday, leaving the entire country in mourning. On Sunday, Lata Mangeshkar was cremated with full state honours in Shivaji Park in Dadar, Mumbai.
The burial was attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray, and Bollywood stars, including Shah Rukh Khan and Ranbir Kapoor.
M Venkaiah Naidu, Chairman of the Rajya Sabha, stated earlier in the day that the death of singing star Lata Mangeshkar signified the end of an era in the music industry.
