According to Modi, the national government is aiming to transform Delhi into a regal metropolis with all the amenities expected of a capital city.

Digital Desk: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday noted the initiatives his administration has taken to advance the capital's development while subtly criticising the AAP government in place, questioning how more money should have been allocated to publicising these Center-sponsored initiatives.

Inaugurating 3,024 new apartments for members of the Economically Weaker Sections, Modi declared that while poverty had previously been seen as something that the poor had to deal with, it is now the focus of his administration's policies since it is a "garibon ki sarkar" (government of the poor).

He mentioned the expansion of the Metro service, whose length in the national capital region rose from 190 km to nearly 400 kilometres since his government took office.

In addition to pro-poor policies, he also advocated the construction of roadways around the capital city.

According to Modi, the national government is aiming to transform Delhi into a regal metropolis with all the amenities expected of a capital city.

Addressing the recipients of the new apartments, Modi questioned: "You estimate the amount of money that ought to have gone toward advertising for what I just said. How many newspaper pages should have been devoted to my photos (and advertisements)?"

Although the Aam Aadmi Party, which controls the city administration, was not specifically mentioned by the prime minister, the BJP has frequently criticised it for its reported enormous publicity expenditures while doing nothing on the ground.

By providing subsidies on housing loan interest, the Center has also assisted members of the lower and middle classes in realising their ambitions of owning a home. It has cost more than Rs 700 crore, he continued.
