The pastor leading the prayers is a member of the Union Church in Mussoorie.


Digital Desk: In the Uttarkashi district of Uttarakhand, a group of at least 30 young men carrying sticks attacked a Christmas programme on Friday, claiming that forced conversions were taking place there.


Pastor Lazarus Cornelius and his wife Sushma Cornelius, who were assaulted by the guys claiming to be from a Hindu group, were among the six individuals afterwards detained by the police who were later freed after indicating the situation had been settled peacefully.


Around lunchtime, an incident happened at the Hope and Life Center in the hamlet, which is about 150 kilometres from the state capital Dehradun. The pastor leading the prayers is a member of the Union Church in Mussoorie.


The anti-conversion Bill that the state's BJP government recently introduced in the legislature was approved and received the governor's assent on Saturday. Locals claim that attacks on Christians and Muslims, two religious minority, have previously occurred.


Police have not yet provided more information.
