Digital Desk: A violent confrontation broke out in Goroimari, under the newly formed Chamaria constituency in South Kamrup, leaving a youth severely injured.
The victim, identified as Abdus Salam, son of Tota Miya from Majortop village, was reportedly attacked after objecting to illegal soil excavation on government land.
The conflict, originated when a local resident, Nurul, allegedly began excavating government land near the E&D embankment.
Using his tractor to transport the soil, Nurul caused significant damage to a busy village road, making it muddy and nearly impassable for commuters.
The incident reportedly occurred after Abdus Salam confronted Nurul and another individual, Abdul, asking them to stop the excavation and the misuse of the public road.
On the night of the incident, Salam was allegedly attacked in a pre-planned manner while traveling to the E&D embankment on his motorcycle.
Locals immediately rushed him to Goroimari Community Health Centre for treatment. Meanwhile, when others went to retrieve Salam's motorcycle from the site, they were also assaulted by the accused, who reportedly vandalised and damaged the bike.
Upon receiving information, Goroimari police reached the spot and have launched an investigation.
However, some groups have tried to portray the incident as election-related violence in certain media portals.
The victim’s family has denied any political angle, stating that the incident stemmed from a personal dispute and urged people not to politicise the matter.
It is also reported that both parties have filed separate complaints at Goroimari Police Station regarding the incident.
