Kailash Koch, the organization's second most powerful leader, and his wife surrendered to authorities in Kolkata in 2022...

Digital Desk: Soon after Kamtapur Liberation Organization (KLO) chief Jeevan Singha, alias Jeevan Koch Timir Das, surrendered to security forces in the Longwa region along the Indo-Myanmar border, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma stated that talks with Home Minister Amit Shah and Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman are taking place about the peace process and other issues.

"Discussions are ongoing, and we will share everything as soon as they conclude," said Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.

CM Sarma stated that it is really great news that they have entered the mainstream, and that once the state government's discussions with the centre are completed, everything would be revealed.

On January 18, Union Home Secretary Ajay Bhalla and Director of Intelligence Bureau Tapan Deka met with Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma to discuss KLO issues. Jiban Singha Koch and nine members of his group surrendered to security forces in the Mon district's Longwa region.

Some senior KLO members have previously surrendered. Kailash Koch, the organization's second most powerful leader, and his wife surrendered to authorities in Kolkata in 2022.

Following their surrender, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma urged the organisation to join the government's peace talks.

The KLO, which is mostly active in Western Assam and northern Bengal, has been advocating for a separate Kamatapur state.

Jiban Singha Koch founded the group three years after graduating from Siliguri College in 1995.

After the formation of the organisation, they began demanding a separate state with parts of the districts of Cooch Behar, Malda, North Dinajpur, South Dinajpur, and Jalpaiguri, as well as stretches of Assam.
