In a bizarre incident, a portion of a brand new road cracked when a BJP MLA tried a coconut cracking ritual ceremony on the road to mark its inauguration in Uttar Pradesh's Bijnor district.

On Thursday evening, the Bijnor MLA Suchi Chaudhury had gone to inaugurate the seven-kilometer road near Kheda village. A total of Rs 1,16,00,000 was spent on the construction of the road, according to sources.

During the inaugural ceremony, she tried to smash a coconut on the road but it did not break and instead, gravel came off.

Upset and furious over the incident, BJP MLA Suchi Chaudhary scolded officials over the poor quality of the road.

When the MLA's husband Mausam Chaudhary, who was also there on the spot, used a shovel on the newly constructed road, the surface started disintegrating.

The District Magistrate of the Bijnor district formed an inquiry committee and ordered the reconstruction of the road.

On the other hand, the irrigation department engineer that handled the construction of the road informed the media that the road was still under construction and the Bitumen layer was yet to set properly due to which it came off when the coconut was smashed on it.

He also disagreed with the charges of corruption made upon him by the Bijnor MLA.
