Commenting on Rohit's performance and appearance, Shama further stated that the Indian skipper "needs to lose weight" and "most unimpressive captain India has ever had."

Digital Desk: Controversy erupted over Congress spokesperson Shama Mohamed's remarks on India men's cricket team captain Rohit Sharma. During the India vs New Zealand Champions Trophy clash, Shama posted on X, calling Rohit "fat for a sportsman".

Commenting on Rohit's performance and appearance, Shama further stated that the Indian skipper "needs to lose weight" and "most unimpressive captain India has ever had."

Taking to X, Shama Mohamed said, "@ImRo45 is fat for a sportsman! Needs to lose weight! And of course, the most unimpressive captain India has ever had!"

However, the post did not sit well with fans and fellow cricketers. She received instant hatred for questioning Rohit's credentials as the captain of the Indian team.

Instead of backing down from her statement, she clarified that it was a generic tweet about the fitness of a sportsperson. She added that it was not 'body-shaming'.

Speaking to a news agency she said, "It was a generic tweet about the fitness of a sportsperson. It was not body-shaming. I always believed a sportsperson should be fit, and I felt he was a bit overweight, so I just tweeted about that. I have been attacked for no reason. When I compared him with previous captains, I put in a statement. I have the right. What is wrong in saying? It is a democracy."
